(MIT) Libraries

Tracy Gabridge

Tracy Gabridge serves as Associate Director of Academic and Community Engagement Services at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Libraries.  Her portfolio of responsibilities encompass access services, resource sharing, liaison services, and data and specialized services.  Tracy has helped to architect and implement several phases of organizational change at the MIT Libraries, primarily related to liaison services, but also to incorporate an external focus in the culture of the libraries.  She writes and speaks on changing liaison services, the process of reorganization, studying user needs, and thinking holistically about providing library services.

Tracy began her work in libraries in 2000 after a successful career as an electrical engineer for AT&T Bell Laboratories /Lucent Technologies and obtaining an M.L.I.S. from the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign.  She leveraged her engineering experience and education (B.S. in Electrical Engineering from MIT, and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University) to become an engineering librarian, finding new ways to engage with the engineering community at MIT.  Her experience as an engineer and as a liaison librarian informed her work to transform liaison services at MIT from a reactive model towards a proactive, outward focus in alignment with researcher and learner needs.
